Welcome to my virtual world…

Thank you for visiting my corner of the online world (designed by Liz Bemis at Bemis Promotions) and being part of my romance writing journey and quest for publication.

Taking my first steps into the blogsphere feels a lot like how I remember feeling on my first day of school. Excited and scared, skipping towards a future full of new friends, things to learn and more adventures than I could have imagined.

My fictional characters search for home, family and community, along with their happy ending. And, although my stories are set in small-town Canada, my heroes and heroines grapple with the same issues as women and men everywhere.

Through this blog, I want to share thoughts on writing and reading, as well as snippets from my life as a writer, wife, mom and accidental emigrant.

Along the way, I also want to talk to you. Jump in with a comment or just to say hi. Email me from my contact page. I’d love to hear from you.

So what about that first day of school?

I made a friend who’s still part of my life.

I found the classroom book corner. Who knew there were so many books in the world, just waiting for me to learn to read?

And I met a wise teacher who encouraged a love of learning I’ve carried with me, always.

Maybe Robert Fulghum was right. Maybe I did learn most of what I needed to know in kindergarten.

What about you?

Learning to trust that small inner voice, which will always speak truth to your heart, was a very important kindergarten lesson learned!

      Hi Heidi,

Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. Trusting that inner voice is indeed a very important lesson. Yes, I too learned that one in kindergarten and it still shapes how I live my life today!

Hi Jen. It was a delight meeting you via cyber-space. I look forward to being friends for a long time. It’s great to know an author from across the pond (even if she moved there from Canada). I look forward to reading your blog regularly. Isn’t it great to know school did have a way of teaching us from early on? I’ve heard so many say, “I don’t know why I have to learn that.” Most teachers teach us through the love of knowledge and their actions toward the students…more than they will ever know. God bless teachers around the world. Keep writing and let the words flow on the page. deb

Hi Deb, Thanks for dropping by my blog and saying hi. You’re right, teachers do teach us as much through their actions as through the actual class lessons. A good teacher (and I’ve been fortunate to have many) can inspire us long after we’ve left their classroom. Looking forward to growing our friendship too. Jen

Hi! I can still remember fondly my first teacher who was, looking back now, an artistic hippy, who wore many jangly, flowery skirts all at the same time, and inspired me artistically aged 5 or 6. The fact I now work in design may well have sprung from that little seed. I hope that teachers appreciate the influence and privilege that they have.

What a lovely memory, Anne. Thanks for visiting and sharing. Although most teachers likely appreciate the influence they have at the time, they may not realize how that influence extends over the years. If only we could go back and tell them how important they were to us – and say ‘thank you’ too.
